Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged parents, guardians, and caregivers to give greater attention to the protection, education, and proper upbringing of children as the state joined the rest of the country to celebrate this year’s Children’s Day.
The governor made the appeal in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in commemoration of the annual celebration dedicated to promoting the welfare and rights of children.
Oborevwori described children as the future of society, stressing that every child deserves the opportunity to grow in a safe and supportive environment where they can achieve their dreams and full potential.
He emphasized the need for parents and guardians to instill sound moral values in children while ensuring they are protected from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and other social dangers that could affect their future.
According to the governor, access to quality education, healthcare, and proper guidance remains essential in preparing children to become responsible adults and future leaders of the society.
He stated that the Delta State Government remains committed to implementing policies and programmes that promote the wellbeing and development of children across the state.
Oborevwori noted that the state has domesticated the Child Rights Protection Act as part of efforts to strengthen legal protection for children and safeguard their rights and welfare.
He also highlighted the government’s commitment to free education at the basic and secondary school levels, describing education as one of the most important investments in the future of the state.
The governor further disclosed that his administration continues to provide free healthcare services for children under the age of five, alongside affordable contributory healthcare programmes aimed at improving access to medical care for families.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in child development, education, and healthcare in line with the MORE Agenda of his government.
Oborevwori advised children across the state to remain focused on their studies, obey their parents and teachers, and work hard toward becoming responsible citizens who will contribute positively to society.
“Children are precious gifts and the future leaders of our society. We must all work together to ensure they are protected, educated, and guided properly to become responsible and productive citizens,” the governor stated.
He congratulated children in Delta State on the occasion of Children’s Day and wished them a joyful and memorable celebration.
