The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has successfully concluded its primary elections in Delta State, with former governorship candidate, Chief Great Ogboru, clinching the party’s ticket for the 2027 governorship election.
The primaries, which produced candidates for the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and governorship positions, were held across the state and brought to a close at the ADC State Secretariat in Asaba.
Announcing the outcome, Chairman of the ADC Primary Election Committee, Prof. Patrick Sambo Williams, described the exercise as peaceful, orderly, and credible, commending stakeholders for their conduct throughout the process.
He explained that the party ensured a level playing field for all aspirants, in line with its constitution and established electoral guidelines, to strengthen internal democracy.
Prof. Williams stated that two aspirants contested the governorship ticket: Chief Great Ogboru and Dr. Emmanuel Unuafe.
He disclosed that Ogboru polled a total of 38,151 votes, while Dr. Unuafe scored 1,182 votes, resulting in a decisive victory for the former governorship candidate.
“Having scored the highest number of valid votes cast, Chief Great Ogboru is hereby declared the winner of the ADC governorship primary election,” Williams announced.
He further noted that the smooth conduct of the primaries reflected the party’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and democratic values.
According to him, the outcome demonstrated that the ADC remains united, stable, and well-positioned ahead of the 2027 general elections in Delta State.
Williams urged all aspirants, supporters, and stakeholders to embrace unity and work together in the interest of the party, stressing that internal cohesion was critical for electoral success.
He emphasised that political competition should not create division among members, but rather strengthen the party’s collective resolve and shared vision.
The committee chairman also expressed appreciation to members of the election committee, security agencies, delegates, and party faithful for ensuring a peaceful and successful exercise.
Following the announcement, supporters of Chief Great Ogboru gathered at the party secretariat in Asaba in celebration, expressing confidence that the ADC would be a strong contender in the 2027 governorship race in Delta State.
