Fresh Crisis Hits ADC as Faction Adopts Kachikwu for 2027 Election

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced major changes in the party’s leadership after dissolving the national working committee led by former Senate President, David Mark, and adopting Dumebi Kachikwu as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The decisions were reached on Sunday during the faction’s national convention and presidential primary held in Abuja, where delegates endorsed Kachikwu as the party’s candidate through a voice vote.

Following the dissolution of the existing national working committee, the faction immediately announced a new set of party executives to oversee its affairs ahead of future political activities.

Among the newly appointed officials are Kingsley Oggah, who has been appointed chairman of the board of trustees, Abdulkadir Bashir as national chairman, Johnny Derek as national secretary, Kennedy O. Odion as national treasurer, Amirigoye as national financial secretary, and Chris Ugwu as national legal adviser.

Addressing party members after receiving the party flag, Kachikwu said Nigeria was currently facing serious economic and social challenges that required urgent leadership reforms and national unity.

According to him, insecurity, rising unemployment, economic hardship and increasing divisions among citizens had continued to worsen the country’s condition.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us and must not be controlled by a few privileged interests,” Kachikwu said while speaking at the convention.

He also expressed concern over the growing number of Nigerians leaving the country in search of better opportunities abroad, describing it as evidence of widespread frustration among citizens.

Kachikwu said the ADC remained committed to presenting itself as a credible political alternative capable of restoring hope and rebuilding confidence among Nigerians ahead of the 2027 elections.

Earlier during the gathering, Kingsley Oggah described the convention as a major turning point for the faction, noting that members remained united despite internal disagreements and political challenges within the party.

He commended party loyalists for remaining committed to the ADC and urged members to continue working together to strengthen the platform.

Also speaking, the newly elected national chairman, Abdulkadir Bashir, appealed to party members to respect the ADC constitution and avoid actions capable of creating further division within the party.

Bashir urged aggrieved members to put aside their differences and return to the party fold to build a stronger and more united ADC ahead of future elections.

The development marks a fresh twist in the internal leadership crisis within the ADC as different factions continue to battle for control of the party structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
