NDC Holds Delta Congress, Swears in New Executives in Asaba

Leaders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) have outlined plans to reposition the party as a credible alternative in Delta State, following the inauguration of new executives at its state congress held in Asaba.

The congress, which took place at Orchid Hotel, drew party members and stakeholders from across the state and marked a renewed push by the party to strengthen its structure ahead of future elections.

Newly inaugurated state chairman, Chief Angiamaowei Richman Oyindoubra, said the exercise reflects the party’s readiness to provide solutions to Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.

He noted that worsening living conditions, driven by rising costs of goods and services, have made it necessary for political actors to focus more on policies that directly improve citizens’ welfare.

“Our goal is to mobilise the people and offer practical solutions to the problems affecting them. We are ready to serve,” Oyindoubra said.

A major highlight of the event was the strong endorsement of the party’s direction by Ken Pela, a former governorship aspirant who recently joined the NDC from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Pela described the NDC as a platform built on clear vision and purposeful leadership, adding that the party represents a shift from conventional politics.

He commended the role of the party’s national leadership, including Seriake Dickson, in sustaining the organisation and giving it direction.

The former aspirant also cited the recent involvement of Peter Obi as a sign of growing confidence in the party and a broader realignment in Nigeria’s political landscape.

“This is not about occupying positions. It is about redefining leadership and building a system that works for the people,” Pela said.

He added that the party is committed to promoting accountability, unity, and inclusive development across Delta State.

The congress also saw the formal inauguration of a new executive team tasked with driving the party’s activities at the state level, as part of efforts to expand its grassroots presence.

Party officials said the exercise is a key step in preparing the NDC for upcoming political engagements, with a focus on strengthening internal cohesion and increasing public support.
