Delta Councillor Nwabuaze Declares for Oshimili South Assembly Seat

A councillor representing Oko/Anala-Amakom in Oshimili South Local Government Area, Honourable Kelvin Chukwudum Nwabuaze, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Oshimili South constituency seat in the Delta State House of Assembly.

Nwabuaze made the declaration on Friday, April 17, 2026, in Asaba, where he addressed journalists and supporters, outlining his vision, track record, and motivation for seeking higher office. He said his decision was driven by a strong sense of purpose, personal conviction, and faith.

According to him, leadership goes beyond rhetoric and must be rooted in clear direction, accountability, and measurable impact. He pointed to his performance as a councillor, noting that his legislative contributions and community interventions are visible and can be verified by constituents.

The lawmaker highlighted his role in sponsoring bills, including those focused on environmental sanitation and public health. He stressed that his efforts have consistently been aimed at improving living standards and addressing pressing local challenges.

Explaining what inspired his ambition, Nwabuaze cited three key factors: personal conviction, faith in God, and confidence in the current state leadership. He praised the Delta State governor for what he described as prudent financial management and a commitment to executing quality projects, adding that such leadership encourages young politicians like himself to step forward.

He also acknowledged the influence of political leaders in the state, noting that mentorship and support for emerging politicians have helped shape his political journey. He expressed confidence that his experience and dedication would earn him the opportunity to represent his constituency at the state level.

On zoning and fairness, Nwabuaze argued that representation in Oshimili South should be balanced among the different communities. He noted that some areas have held key positions for extended periods and called for equitable distribution of political opportunities to ensure inclusiveness.

Speaking on his plans if elected, he promised to be an active and outspoken legislator who would prioritise lawmaking, advocacy, and effective representation. He said he would ensure that the concerns of his constituents are clearly communicated to the state government.

Nwabuaze criticised what he described as a culture of misinformation and “eye service” among some public officials, stressing that leaders must tell the truth to those in authority to enable better decision-making. He pledged to maintain honesty and transparency in his dealings.

Addressing youth development and job creation, he said he would focus on reviving dormant industries and attracting private investment to the area. He emphasised the need to explore opportunities in sectors such as local manufacturing and the “blue economy,” particularly given the riverine nature of parts of his constituency.

He further stated that beyond relying on constituency projects, legislators must actively seek partnerships, engage investors, and develop policies that stimulate economic growth and employment.

On accountability, Nwabuaze promised regular engagement with constituents, including quarterly briefings to report his activities and receive feedback. He said such interactions would ensure that he remains responsive to the needs of the people.

“If after two years there are no visible results, the people have every right to reject me,” he said, adding that public office should be based on performance and trust.

Responding to concerns about underperformance by some past representatives, Nwabuaze insisted he would be different, pointing to his track record as evidence. He recounted how he once halted a substandard health centre project in his area and escalated the issue to the appropriate authorities, leading to its correction.

He said his approach to leadership has always been driven by courage and a willingness to stand for what is right, regardless of pressure.

While acknowledging that he may not have all the answers, he assured constituents of consistent communication, openness, and a commitment to learning and delivering results.

Nwabuaze also emphasised that his political support cuts across party lines, noting that his track record of community service, including supporting schools and assisting with limited resources, has earned him goodwill among the people.

He concluded by urging voters to judge him based on his past performance and capacity, rather than political affiliation, promising to deliver effective representation if elected.
