Ughelli, Delta State — A political gathering of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was on Thursday abruptly disrupted by suspected thugs allegedly linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Afiesere community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The incident reportedly occurred at Afiesere Primary School in Afiesere, where members and supporters of the ADC had gathered for their congress.
According to a video shared by Ughelli Network on Facebook and seen by Golden Nation Multimedia, the meeting turned chaotic when a group of men stormed the venue and attacked participants.
In the footage, ADC supporters were seen running in different directions to escape the attack, as the suspected thugs disrupted the event.
Eyewitness accounts captured in the video indicated that the attackers arrived suddenly and began destroying property at the venue.
Canopies set up for the congress were pulled down, while one of the individuals was seen removing the party’s banner.
A voice speaking in pidgin in the background of the video described the situation as it unfolded:
“ADC dey do Congress while APC come scatter am live for Afiesere primary school… Two motor just come and dem scatter everything.”
The video was captioned with claims that APC thugs carried out the disruption. However, there has been no official confirmation from the All Progressives Congress or security agencies as of the time of filing this report.
Similarly, authorities are yet to state the incident or any arrests made.
The incident has raised concerns among residents and political observers about the growing trend of violence during political gatherings in parts of the state.
Stakeholders have called for calm and urged security agencies to investigate the matter and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
