Itsekiri Coordinators Back Tantita Contract, Condemn Calls for Revocation

A group of Itsekiri coordinators of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited has strongly condemned recent calls by some individuals seeking the revocation of the company’s pipeline surveillance contract, describing such agitations as self-serving and not representative of the Niger Delta people.

In a press briefing held on March 31, 2026, the coordinators dismissed the agitators as individuals lacking credibility and mandate, accusing them of attempting to create confusion and destabilise the region for personal gain. They maintained that those calling for the cancellation of the contract do not speak for the communities but are driven by ulterior motives.

Addressing the statement to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the coordinators expressed appreciation for the Federal Government’s decision to extend the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Tantita. According to them, the move reflects the administration’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s critical oil and gas infrastructure while ensuring continuity and efficiency in operations.

The coordinators also reaffirmed their confidence in the leadership of Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, describing him as a capable and dependable figure who has delivered measurable results. They noted that under his leadership, Tantita has significantly reduced oil theft and improved security across pipeline corridors in the Niger Delta.

Responding to concerns about inclusion, the group stated that Tantita already operates an inclusive and community-based structure that accommodates all ethnic nationalities in the region. They explained that coordinators and contractors have been appointed from host communities to oversee operations, ensuring grassroots participation, accountability, and effective supervision.

The coordinators further highlighted the impact of Tantita’s operations, noting improvements in security and environmental stability across Niger Delta waterways. They credited the company with curbing incidents of kidnapping and unrest, while also contributing to the restoration of aquatic life through better protection of the ecosystem.

Speaking on behalf of Itsekiri communities, the group affirmed that they are adequately represented within the operational framework of the company. They described their appointments as coordinators across various clusters as evidence of fairness and recognition of the role oil-producing communities play in national development.

The statement also criticised calls for the decentralisation or cancellation of the contract, warning that such demands could undermine the relative peace currently enjoyed in the region. The coordinators alleged that some of those behind the agitation were previously involved in pipeline vandalism and illegal bunkering, and are seeking opportunities to resume such activities.

They stressed that the pipeline surveillance contract is not a regional entitlement but a national responsibility entrusted to a competent organisation based on performance and results. According to them, Tantita has earned the trust of the Federal Government through discipline and efficiency.

The coordinators advised aggrieved individuals to pursue legitimate opportunities rather than attempting to discredit a system they said is already delivering positive outcomes.

Reaffirming their position, the Itsekiri leaders pledged continued support for Tantita Security Services and its leadership, vowing to sustain efforts aimed at protecting Nigeria’s oil and gas assets while promoting peace, environmental stability, and development across the Niger Delta.

The statement was jointly signed by several coordinators representing different Itsekiri clusters, including Ebisan Fenemigho, Fidelis Ete Lori, Richard Arubi, Emmanuel Demeyin, Johnson Onire, and Roland Oti Yomere, among others.
