How DOPF Plans to Use Digital Storytelling to Empower Women in Delta

The Delta Online Publishers Forum has called on government agencies, civil society organisations, development partners and corporate bodies to partner with it as preparations intensify for the 2026 edition of International Women’s Day in Delta State.

The event will take place on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at No. 12 Uchenna Okolo Street, opposite St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Asaba, bringing together stakeholders to discuss ways to empower women and promote gender equality.

Organisers say the programme will highlight the role of digital storytelling, advocacy and collaboration in supporting women and girls across the state.

The forum announced that former chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Patricia Gbemudu, will deliver the keynote address at the event.

According to the organisers, the programme will provide a platform for dialogue on how media professionals, advocacy groups and community leaders can amplify women’s voices and support initiatives aimed at improving their lives.

Theme: ‘Give to Gain’

This year’s celebration will focus on the theme “Give to Gain: Empowering Women through Digital Storytelling.”

The theme aligns with the global “Give To Gain” campaign, which promotes the idea that acts of generosity and support can create meaningful change in society.

The campaign encourages individuals, organisations and communities to contribute to women’s empowerment through mentorship, donations, knowledge-sharing, advocacy and capacity building.

According to the forum, such contributions help create positive ripple effects that strengthen families, communities and society as a whole.

As part of the event, the forum will organise a “Give To Gain Impact Conference,” where participants will discuss strategies for advancing women’s empowerment and increasing the visibility of women’s achievements.

The programme will also feature the recognition of outstanding women and nonprofit organisations that have made significant contributions to women’s development and gender equality.

Organisers say the celebration will also include media advocacy campaigns across Delta-based digital platforms, aimed at raising awareness about issues affecting women and girls.

According to the forum, the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration will focus on several key priorities, including:

Empowering women through media and digital storytelling

Supporting women-focused nonprofit organisations

Promoting initiatives that advance women’s rights and opportunities

Challenging stereotypes, discrimination and gender bias

Encouraging collaboration between advocacy groups and community organisations

The event will also spotlight grassroots organisations and girl-child advocacy groups working to improve the lives of women and girls in Delta State.

The forum stressed that partnerships with stakeholders will be essential in ensuring the success of the programme.

According to DOPF, the participation of government institutions, community leaders, civil society groups and development partners will help amplify the impact of the campaign.

Organisers also believe that broader participation will encourage more people to support women-focused initiatives and embrace a culture of giving.

“When women rise, society rises,” the forum said in the statement.

The statement was signed by Josephine Omodior, Secretary of the committee for the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration organised by the Delta Online Publishers Forum.
