A group of suspected thieves has been caught on camera breaking into and looting a gadget store in Asaba, the Delta State capital, sparking public outrage and renewed concerns over rising crime in the area.
The incident occurred in the early hours of December 30 at AmyTechWorld & Gadgets, located behind the Specialist Hospital in Asaba. According to information from the store owner, about a dozen men dressed in dark clothing forced their way into the shop and carted away phones, laptops, and other electronic devices.
Although the suspects reportedly smashed the shop’s external CCTV camera, they failed to notice the internal surveillance system, which clearly captured their faces and actions during the operation. The footage shows the men moving freely around the store as they packed valuables into bags.
The video was later shared on X by user @dammiedammie35 and has since drawn widespread public scrutiny, with many users urging authorities to act swiftly and calling on locals to help identify the suspects.
The owner of the shop, identified as Uzoamaka, has announced a reward of ₦200,000 for anyone who provides credible information that leads to the arrest of the suspects. A woman believed to be connected to the store later shared the CCTV footage online, calling on residents to help identify the individuals involved.
The video has since circulated widely on social media, drawing reactions ranging from sympathy for the victim to anger over what many describe as a slow police response and worsening insecurity in the state. Several residents linked the incident to the current economic hardship, which they say has contributed to an increase in theft and other crimes.
As of the time of filing this report, no arrests have been made, and the police have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
