NUJ to Honour Aniagwu, Adebayo at 2025 Press Week

The Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has announced the recipients of its 2025 Press Week Awards, recognising outstanding contributions in public service, journalism, and leadership.

The Honourable Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu, will be honoured with the Outstanding Public Service Award in Information Management and Infrastructure Development. The award highlights his dedication to strengthening journalism practices while promoting public confidence in Delta State’s infrastructure development.

Similarly, Asiwaju Sola Adebayo, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Iyanda Farms, Delta State, will receive the Excellence in Journalism and Entrepreneurial Leadership Award. Adebayo is recognised for his consistent commitment to the empowerment and welfare of journalists across Nigeria.

In a joint statement, Comrade Pere Botu and Comrade Barth Ozah, Chairman and Secretary of the 2025 NUJ Press Week Committee, said the awards form part of activities marking the 2025 Press Week, scheduled from Sunday, November 16, to Sunday, November 23, 2025.

This year’s celebration carries the theme: “Tax Regimes and Exchange Rate Unification: Economic Implications and the Media’s Strategic Role.” The theme underscores the link between economic policy and the influence of journalism on public discourse.

The Opening Ceremony and Policy Session will take place on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the Orchid Hotel, Asaba. Other notable honourees include Prof. Stella Chiemeke and TANTITA Security Services.

Senator Onowakpor Thomas, representing the Delta South Senatorial District, will deliver the keynote address. The Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, will be formally invested as Grand Patron of the NUJ Delta State Council, a ceremony to be conducted by Comrade Alhasan Yahya, National President of the NUJ.

The week-long event will celebrate excellence in journalism, foster dialogue among stakeholders, and reaffirm the media’s role in advancing Nigeria’s economic and social development.
