Asaba, Delta State — The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has assured residents that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration is committed to fairness and balanced development in all parts of the state.
Speaking at a press conference in Asaba, Aniagwu said the government’s MORE Agenda is being implemented to benefit all 25 local government areas, 10 federal constituencies, and three senatorial districts.
Aniagwu noted that in the past two years, the Governor has made sure projects are shared fairly across communities. While citizens have the right to request more projects, he said such demands should recognise the progress already made.
The Commissioner, joined by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary Sir Festus Ahon, Executive Assistant on Public Enlightenment Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, and Executive Assistant on Media Mr. Norbert Chiazor, stressed:
“We promised more, and we are delivering more.”
Defending Government Work in Isoko
Responding to recent criticism from some members of the Isoko Nation, Aniagwu said the remarks were either political or made by people unaware of the development in their communities.
He explained that almost every meeting of the State Executive Council includes the approval of projects for Isoko. One recent example is the ₦5.1 billion Ogodogo–Ivu Access Road in Okpolo-Enhwe, Isoko South Local Government Area, which leads to major oil facilities.
Aniagwu listed other completed or ongoing projects in the area, including:
- Otekpo Road in Elu
- Internal roads in Isoko South
- Uzere–Asaba-Ase Bridge
- Isoko Ring Road linking multiple communities
- Emede internal roads
- Enuru–Ikuli Access Road
- Uruaka Express Link Road in Emede
- Olomoro–Igbide Road
- Emevor–Orogun Road Phase 1 and Phase 2 (ongoing)
- Okpolo-Enhwe Internal Roads Phases 1 and 2
- Parts of the reconstructed Ughelli–Asaba Expressway passing through Isoko
Education and Health Projects
Aniagwu reminded residents that Isoko is the only federal constituency in Delta hosting two state-owned universities — Southern Delta University, Ozoro, and the Oleh Campus of Delta State University, which houses the Law and Engineering faculties.
Under Governor Oborevwori, the state has:
- Completed the College of Medical Sciences at Southern Delta University
- Finished the Senate Building and internal roads at the Ozoro campus
- Established the College of Health Technology in Ovrode
- Equipped the General Hospital in Ozoro
The Governor has also visited Isoko twice in his first year to commission projects.
Warning Against Political Tensions
Aniagwu urged critics to avoid “dirty politics” ahead of the 2027 elections and not to spread false claims to discredit the government. He stressed that the administration will not be distracted and will keep working for all parts of the state.
He also encouraged residents to be happy when other areas get projects, just as others rejoice when Isoko benefits, adding that no local government is left out of development.
On the predicted flooding across the country, Aniagwu said the state is already clearing drainages and waterways to reduce the impact. He advised people to stop dumping refuse in drains and urged residents in flood-prone areas to move to higher ground before flooding starts.
