The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has officially resigned from his position.
This was announced on Friday by the party’s spokesperson, Felix Morka, who said the resignation took immediate effect. According to the statement, Dr. Ganduje stepped down to attend to urgent and personal matters.
In his resignation letter, addressed to the APC National Working Committee (NWC) through the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, Dr. Ganduje thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve at the top level of the party.
To avoid a leadership gap, President Tinubu has asked the Deputy National Chairman (North), Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, to take over as Acting National Chairman until the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) holds a meeting to officially appoint a new chairman.
Dr. Ganduje became APC Chairman in August 2023, after the former chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, resigned.
The APC praised Dr. Ganduje for the work he did during his time as chairman. According to the statement, he worked hard to unite party members, promote democratic values, and strengthen the party’s chances in elections.
The party also mentioned that under his leadership:
- Members from opposition parties joined the APC, and
- Court cases confirmed the legitimacy of the party’s leadership.
The APC said they remain focused on their goal of delivering good governance to Nigerians, based on President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The party ended the statement by thanking Dr. Ganduje for his efforts and wishing him good health and success in the future.
