Better Roads, Good Health, No Debts – Delta’s Progress So Far

Sir Fidelis Tilije Praises Governor Oborevwori’s Leadership

Asaba, Delta State – The Delta State Government has started a big campaign to fight malaria by giving out over 3 million insecticide-treated mosquito nets to people all across the state.

This event took place at the Dome Event Center in Asaba, the capital of Delta State on Friday, May 23, 2025. During the event, the Commissioner for Finance, Sir Fidelis Tilije, spoke to journalists about the importance of this program and how well the state is doing.

Can Delta State Be Free from Malaria?

Sir Tilijie said yes, Delta State can become free from malaria. He explained that according to the World Bank, 90% of the state has already received help, and only 10% is left.

With the new mosquito nets being shared, Sir Tilije believes the state is very close to ending malaria for good. He thanked the Governor of Delta State, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, and the Commissioner for Health for their efforts in improving the healthcare system.

“If people are healthy, they can work and do better in life,” Sir Tilije said.

Governor’s Achievements So Far

When asked about the work his ministry has done, Sir Tilije praised Governor Oborevwori for leading all government offices well. He said:

  • Asaba is growing fast with new roads and buildings.
  • Warri and other local government areas are now like construction sites because of many new projects.
  • The road from Asaba to Warri used to take 3½ hours, but now it takes just 2 hours because of better roads.
  • The Governor has created many empowerment programs to help people find jobs and start businesses.

No Borrowing, No Debts

One of the most surprising things Sir Tilije said was that the Governor is doing all these big projects without borrowing any money. He said the government has saved billions of naira and is not owing any contractors.

“We have enough money to run the state this year without taking loans,” he said proudly.

Keeping the State Peaceful and Growing

Sir Tilije also praised Governor Oborevwori for keeping peace in the state, which is helping businesses grow and more people move into the state.

“The Governor is a true leader. He is working for the people at the grassroots level,” he added.

What This Means

This means:

  • Families in Delta State are getting free nets to protect them from malaria.
  • Roads and buildings are being improved across the state.
  • The government is managing money wisely and not getting into debt.

Delta State is working hard to stay healthy, peaceful, and strong—so that everyone, including children, can live better and safer lives.
