Domestic Violence in Abia: Man Sets Himself and Family on Fire

A very sad and shocking event happened in a community in Abia State, Nigeria. A 40-year-old man named Mr. Udochi Amala did something terrible to his family because he suspected that his wife was cheating on him.

Very early on Saturday morning, around 1am to 2am, Mr. Udochi poured petrol (a kind of fuel) on himself, his wife (Mrs. Amarachi Amala), and their three children, and then set them all on fire. This happened in Onicha Ngwa community, which is in Obingwa Local Government Area. The family is originally from Amapu Ihe village in Osisioma LGA.

One of their daughters died immediately because of the fire. The mother and the other two children were taken to a hospital, but sadly, they died later on Monday because their injuries were too serious.

Mr. Udochi survived the fire and tried to run away, but people in the community caught him and handed him over to the police. The police confirmed the incident and said they are still investigating what happened.

When Mr. Udochi was asked why he did it, he said, “I have an issue with my wife, and I did not know that it would get to this extent. I am tired of this life.” He also admitted that he had no proof that his wife was cheating.

Many people are very angry and sad about this tragedy. A group called FIDA Abia (International Federation of Women Lawyers) said they were shocked and heartbroken. They called the act a serious crime and said the man must be punished. They also said the government should do more to protect women and children from violence.

FIDA asked everyone to help by reporting any kind of abuse or violence to the right authorities, so families can be safe.

This is a reminder that hurting others is never the answer. When people have problems, they should talk to someone and ask for help. Families should be places of love and safety, not of fear.

Let us all hope for justice for the victims and peace for their souls.
