PDP Crisis Turns Senate Session into a Comedy Show

In Nigeria’s Senate on Wednesday, something happened that left members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) feeling awkward. The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, made jokes about the big fight going on inside the PDP, and it didn’t go down well with the PDP Senators.

The drama started when Senator Abba Moro, a top PDP member, said that Senator Samuel Anyanwu was still the party’s National Secretary (like a team captain). But there was a problem: the PDP governors had already chosen someone else, Sunday Udeh-Okoye, to take over that role.

Senate President’s Funny Comment

When Senate President Akpabio heard this, he couldn’t resist making a joke. He sarcastically asked Senator Moro to explain who was really in charge of the PDP. When Moro couldn’t give a clear answer, Akpabio joked that the Senate should form a “special team” to look into the PDP’s fight and help them sort it out.

This made the Senators from the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), burst into laughter. Meanwhile, the PDP Senators looked embarrassed, like a sports team being laughed at for not knowing who their captain was.

Another Senator Leaves the PDP

Adding to the drama, Senator Ned Nwoko, who used to be part of the PDP, officially announced he was leaving the party and joining the APC. In a letter read out by the Senate President, Nwoko said the PDP had too many problems, making it hard for him to do his job as a senator. He said he liked the APC better because they seemed more organized. He even suggested the Senate should investigate why the PDP was having so many issues.

PDP Leaders Try to Fix the Problem

While all this was happening, the PDP’s top leaders, called the Board of Trustees (BoT), held a meeting in Abuja. They decided that Sunday Udeh-Okoye should be the National Secretary, agreeing with what the governors had already said. They based their decision on a report from a special committee and a court ruling that supported Udeh-Okoye’s position. The BoT told everyone in the party to respect this decision so they could stop fighting and work together again.

What Does This Mean?

All these events show that the PDP is struggling with leadership problems. Some of their members are leaving to join other parties, and even in public, they can’t agree on who’s in charge. While the ruling APC is laughing at their confusion, the PDP needs to fix these issues quickly if they want to stay strong, especially with important elections coming up in the future.
