Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, who represents Delta North in Nigeria’s National Assembly, was recently honored with the prestigious ‘Most Outstanding Legislator in Nigeria 2024’ award. The award was presented on Sunday, January 19, 2024, by the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Churchill Oyovwe, and Secretary, Comrade Victor Sorokwu, made the presentation during a ceremony that recognized Nwoko’s contributions to governance and development.
Senator Nwoko Reacts to the Award
Reflecting on the honor, Senator Nwoko expressed gratitude and pledged to continue advocating for good governance. He said, “Being chosen as the ‘Most Outstanding Legislator of the Year’ among many others is an encouragement for me to do more. This recognition is a testament to my commitment to serving the people with humanity and ensuring accountability in governance.”

Commitment to Anioma State Creation
Senator Nwoko reiterated his unwavering commitment to the creation of Anioma State, a long-standing aspiration of the people in Delta State. He explained that the new state would ensure balanced development and greater opportunities for the people of Delta.
“The creation of Anioma State is not about political parties; it’s about the freedom and development of our people,” Nwoko said. He envisions Delta being divided into two states: Anioma and another state called “New Delta,” with Warri as its capital.
Constitution Amendment Progress
As a member of the Senate’s Constitution Amendment Committee, Nwoko revealed that Anioma State has progressed significantly in the legislative process. He stated, “Anioma is the only state that has made it through the first and second readings in the Senate. By the end of February or early March 2025, there will be a public hearing on the bill before it proceeds to the third reading and then to the President for approval.”
Nwoko emphasized his dedication to this cause, saying, “As long as I remain a senator and member of the Constitution Amendment Committee, I will ensure Anioma State becomes a reality.”
Decamping to APC for Greater Support
In response to speculation about leaving the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Nwoko confirmed he is considering joining the All Progressives Congress (APC). He cited the lack of support from PDP as his reason, adding that APC’s backing would help him achieve his goals for Anioma people.
“I need a platform that will support me in creating Anioma State and addressing infrastructure issues like the Asaba/Oko road and Okpai power projects. If PDP won’t help, I will go to APC, where they will support me in getting these things done,” Nwoko explained.
Legislative Achievements
Senator Nwoko also shared that he has introduced six bills in the Senate, including the bill for Anioma State. “Out of 36 bills currently in the Senate, the creation of Anioma State is the only state-related bill under consideration,” he said.
Why Anioma State Matters
Nwoko believes Anioma State would bring progress and opportunities to its people, just as the creation of Delta State from the old Bendel State did years ago. He urged everyone to support the movement, adding, “Imagine if Delta State was never created from Bendel – would Asaba be what it is today?”
A Message to the People
Senator Nwoko’s message to his constituents and all Nigerians is clear: his work is focused on improving lives and delivering meaningful change. His recognition as the ‘Most Outstanding Legislator of 2024’ reflects his efforts, and he is determined to push for the realization of Anioma State as his legacy for Delta North and beyond.
