In a strange event, a daring person was caught by customs officials while trying to sneak a surprising number of live snakes into mainland China.
DM News reports say the unidentified traveller cleverly hid 104 snakes in six bags tucked inside his trousers. It was a bizarre attempt discovered when he passed through the “nothing to declare” gate at the border between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.
Customs officers, alert as always, decided to check the suspicious man and were shocked to find a collection of snakes in different shapes, sizes, and colors when they opened the bags. Chinese Customs released a video showing agents looking into transparent bags filled with live red, pink, and white snakes. This smuggler was clearly carrying more than just a few reptiles.
However, this bold attempt to bypass strict biosecurity laws did not go unnoticed. China strictly prohibits importing non-native species without permission, and those who break these rules face serious consequences. While the exact punishment for the man was not disclosed, authorities made it clear he would be held accountable under the law.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time people have tried to smuggle snakes in odd places. A few years ago at the same border, a woman was caught trying to bring in five snakes hidden in her bra. It seems snakes can be quite sneaky travel companions!
China, known for its efforts against wildlife trafficking, aims to protect its native species and tightly controls the entry of foreign animals. This incident reminds us that wildlife laws must always be respected, no matter how unusual the smuggling method. Trying to sneak snakes across borders is risky, and those caught face serious consequences.
