To keep to the promise of working until the last day of his administration, the Delta State Government led by Sen Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has approved several projects in barely five days to vacate the governor’s office.
The government approved the establishment of another independent power plant in Ika North East and other projects within the state.
The honorable Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu made this known to journalists immediately after the State Executive meeting at the government house in Asaba, the state capital on Tuesday.
According to the information commissioner, a lot of memos were brought forward and approved. Most of these memos centered on the development of infrastructures, adding that the establishment of 2.5 megawatts of electricity became necessary based on the need to provide enough power energy for critical government establishment in the state.
The Commissioner said it is an opportunity for the state to utilize based on the amendment to the Constitution, which now guaranteed full liberalization of the power sector wherein the federal government makes it possible for states to now generate, transmit, and distribute electricity.
He said the government also approved the procurement and installation of medical equipment at 20 General hospitals across the state, adding that the medical equipment is to boost the delivery of healthcare to the people of the state.
He also said the government has approved the appointment of Samson Sapele Obruche 11, as the Odion O’rode of Uwheru Kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
Mr. Aniagwu again said that the government has approved the payment of the outstanding debt incurred due to the rent of some of the properties that the government has rented before now. According to him, after the development of the state secretariat, the government made it possible for people to leave all those rented apartments and has decided to pay off a number of these landlords the rents the government has not paid before now.
He said the construction of 2.3 kilometers road in Obiaruku, as well as internal roads in Turugbene in the Burutu Local Government Area of the state has also been approved.
