MultiChoice unveils D’banj, Simi As New Judges For Nigerian Idol Season 7

The leading entertainment company and organizers of Nigerian Idol, MultiChoice Nigeria, has unveiled D’banj, the award-winning entertainer, Simi, one of the Nigerian songstresses, and Obi Asika as the new judges for season seven of the show that is scheduled to commence on February 6, 2022.

This announcement was disclosed in a statement by MultiChoice Nigeria on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.

According to the statement, it was gathered that IK Osakioduwa, the popular radio and TV personality will be returning as the show’s host alongside Obi Asika who also comes back as a judge.

Dr. Busola Tejumola, the Executive Head, Content, and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice Nigeria, while unveiling the new judges said: “We could not think of a better trio to be the season’s judges than Obi Asika, D’banj, and Simi.”

He also said “The three of them combined bring decades’ worth of experience in the music and entertainment business, as well as individual mastery of their crafts. We do not doubt that they will keep the viewers entertained in what will be a spectacular season!”

It was gathered that D’banj who is currently not in the country during the unveiling also affirmed his enthusiasm at being one of the judges of this season.

Speaking about the new task, D’banj said “I was out of the country when I found out that I was going to be a judge for this season of Nigerian Idol and I couldn’t contain my excitement. I’m coming in with my strategy so viewers should expect a bang.”

Also, Simi on her part stated that “I’ve always loved the idea of being a judge and I think it’s a fun thing to do. I plan to be very honest and have fun and hopefully gain inspiration from those that come on the show.”

Obi Asika who also returned as one of the judges added that “I will be looking for special talents and new faces this year. I’m also excited to work with the rest of the judges this season, and I will be very fair and real to every contestant just like I was last year.”

It was gathered that the auditions for the seventh edition of the show had commenced in November last year.

In July 2021, Kingdom Kroseide emerged winner of season six of the Nigerian Idol, after defeating other contestants in a serious musical session.
