Discord among Reps members during its Electoral bill session

The House of Representatives during its continuation of the Electoral Act amendment bill on Friday, went into a disorganized session when Deputy Speaker, Idris Wase, skipped clause 52, of the report.

On Thursday, the House had suspended its session after consideration of the bill followed a disagreement among members on the mode of transmitting election results.

Recall, the House had invited the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) to educate lawmakers on the implications and possibility of electronic transmission of results.

But immediately after officials of the NCC left the chamber, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila declared openly the resumption of consideration of the report after understanding the comments of the NCC officials proceeding from clause 52.

Meanwhile, disagreement started when Deputy Speaker Idris Wase, who presided over the consideration of the report, skipped clause 52 which forced Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Toby Okechukwu to call for a point of order.

Hon. Okechukwu brought the attention of the House to the fact that the matter of assertion before the suspension of the session was the amendment to clause 52 and not the entire clause.

According to Hon. Okechukwu who said the recommendation of the Electoral Committee which leaves the mode of transmission of election results at the discretion of INEC was not voted on neither was a decision taken on the motion moved by Hon. Kingsley Chinda.

But when Wase said there was no motion to that effect, the House became disorderly as some lawmakers were seen accusing one another almost leading to a fight.
