The House of Representatives has debunked stories whimpering that the speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila has opposed the decision of the Southern Governors call for restructuring.
This was disclosed in a statement on Friday by the Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Benjamin Kalu while reacting to the situation that arises after the media reported that the Speaker attacked the Southern governors over the issue of restructuring which was reached at the Southern Governors Forum meeting that was held in Government House in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
Benjamin Kalu, in the statement titled ‘The Speaker did not say he is opposed to the Southern governors call for restructuring’ revealed that from the beginning of the 9th Assembly, the House under the leadership of Rep Femi Gbajabiamila has stated its commitment for a thorough review of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria stating that it can be seen in the composition and activities of the Constitutional Review Committee of the House.
According to the statement, the House of Representatives gathered that the allegations made against the Speaker after seeking his opinion on the issue are false and misleading, noting that Gbajabiamila did not oppose the governor’s decision on the call for restructuring.
