Veteran actor, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, during an interview with BBC Yoruba explained why she does not support the idea of a lady getting married without having a source of income.
The actress in her statements while responding to a question whether she would allow any of her kids to marry at the age of 18, said she was at the age of understanding when she got married stating that, above all, she was mature and already working being a millionaire when she meet her husband.
The actress said currently she have only one child that is 18 years old and he is a boy. Stating if peradventure, he says he wants to get married, she will not allow it because he does not have his own money now, but she also added that if after all these factors, any of my child is still considering marriage, then we as parents would meet the person and if we like them, we would give them our blessings.”
According to her, the idea of a lady getting married without having any source of income is bad, suggesting that one should always apply wisdom or common sense in everything that they do.
She said people should not say because I got married at 18 years, therefore they can also do it, adding that if anyone does it, that person would be going into slavery. According to her, the question is, are you ready for the marriage?
She said, “At 18, I had my own money. I was not dependent on any man. Moreover, my father died early, so I was already responsible for my younger siblings. I was like their mother at that time, so I was very mature and financially prepared.
