The Nigerian Armed force Command and Staff College (AFCSC) had announced plans to begin a Master’s degree program in Security studies.
These were disclosed by the Commandant of the Armed Forces College, AVM Ebenezer Alade when he paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru on Wednesday in Abuja.
According to the Commandant, he stated that the college had continued to review its curriculum which had to broaden its scope to be able to award Master’s degrees.
He said the college had requested approval for the Master’s program because what they do for the Armed Forces was sufficient to earn them Masters’ degrees.
Also, he said, but because they have not been given credit, according to him, they need to bring the table from the University and complete the course by adding so many units.
Alade further stated that the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) has looked through their programs and their curriculum and have agreed that what they have is sufficient to enable them to provide Master’s degrees in Security Studies.
He said, in terms of training, a lot has been achieved in the college, stating that, he want to intimate more emphasis on joint training among the services.
He also solicited more support from the Nigerian Army in the provision of accommodation to increase the number of its intake.
However, while responding, the COAS, Attahiru assures the commitment of the Nigerian Army to continue engaging in support and collaboration with the college to achieve its mandate.
Also, Attahiru commended the college for the transformation of its infrastructure and standardization of its training to enhance the operational manpower of the Armed Forces.
