The final year students (HND II and ND II) of the Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State have embarked on protest over a compulsory fee that they were asked to pay for a program that will enhance their proficiency in Computer Application and Marketability after graduation.
The final year students embarked on the protest today, Wednesday 24, after they were ask to pay for Microsoft Certificate Programme which the registration is N7000.
During the protests, the school entrance gate and the School road that lead to Azagba-Ogwashi was locked and blocked as students sing chanting songs while others were seen displaying their various placards.
It was gathered that the school management in a memo dated March 22, 2021, had informed the students (especially Final year Students ND II and HND II) that the Polytechnics Governing Council has approved ‘Microsoft Certificate Programme for all final year Students of the institution.
According to the memo, the program is meant to enhance Students’ proficiency in Computer Application, Marketability after graduation.
The memo also stated that the program is compulsory for all final year Students while mandating them to pay a registration fee of Seven thousand naira (N7000) in a session.
