KONDUGA, BORNO STATE – April 7, 2025 – A terrible fire broke out in Kalari, a small settlement in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, killing three people and leaving over 3,000 others without homes.
The fire started around 1:00 PM and quickly spread through three nearby villages. More than 1,500 houses made from grass and sticks were completely burned down. Many families lost everything they had.
The Nigerian Army and a group called the Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF) quickly came to help. Soldiers from the 222 Battalion gave first aid to injured people and took them to the Maiduguri Specialist Hospital using army ambulances.
Important leaders, like the Chairman of Konduga Local Government, a member of the Borno State House of Assembly, and the Commissioner for Environment, visited the scene to make sure help reached the people who needed it most.
This fire happened just a few months after a big flood hit the same area in September 2024. That flood happened when the Alau Dam broke, and it forced around 240,000 people to leave their homes in Konduga, Maiduguri, and Jere.
Now, with this new fire, many families are suffering again. An official from the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) said the government is asking for help. They need food, tents, clothes, and medicine for the people who lost their homes in both the flood and the fire.
Many of the people affected are children, women, and elderly people who are in urgent need of support. The government and kind-hearted groups are working together to make sure they get help fast.
This is a very sad time for the people of Kalari and Konduga, but with everyone’s support, they hope to rebuild and recover soon.
