Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), recently stated that divine intervention through prayer helped prevent the Nigerian Naira from falling to a catastrophic exchange rate of ₦10,000 per dollar.
He made this declaration during a church service, highlighting the power of prayer in mitigating what he described as a looming “economic disaster.”
The remarks have stirred varied reactions across social media and public discourse in Nigeria. While some Nigerians expressed faith in Adeboye’s message, attributing positive changes in the economy to spiritual intervention, others were more critical or skeptical, questioning the impact of prayer on concrete economic challenges.
Notably, Chief Sunny Onuesoke, a prominent political figure, criticized the notion of spirituality solving Nigeria’s economic issues, emphasizing instead the need for more tangible policy reforms by the nation’s leaders.
