ASABA — Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commissioned eight brand-new four-bedroom duplexes with attached boys’ quarters at the Commissioners’ Quarters in Asaba. The new buildings are part of efforts to provide better accommodation for members of the State Executive Council. But alongside the celebration came a serious message: underperformance will no longer be tolerated in his administration.
Speaking at the commissioning event on Monday, the Governor praised his commissioners for their loyalty, dedication, and hard work. However, he was quick to point out that some members of his team have not been living up to expectations.
“I want to, once again, commend our commissioners for being loyal, dedicated, and hardworking. But let me be clear — if you’re not performing, we will drop you,” the Governor stated.
He addressed recent rumors that his cabinet may be dissolved, calling them baseless. He explained that while there are no plans for a blanket shake-up, individual commissioners who are not pulling their weight would be asked to leave.
“People say the Governor wants to dissolve the Executive Council — but they didn’t hear that from me. That’s just talk. The truth is, those who are not doing well will go. Like today, I told one of them in the chapel: ‘You’re not performing.’”
Governor Oborevwori used the occasion to urge his commissioners to be more proactive. He emphasized that visibility and initiative are key traits he expects from them.
“As a commissioner, don’t wait for me to come looking for you. Bring your memos, show initiative, be visible. If we don’t see your work, then it means there’s a problem.”

The eight newly completed duplexes were added to the Commissioners’ Quarters to address a major accommodation shortfall. When the current administration took over, there were only 22 available homes — far less than the number of commissioners serving in the government.
“When we came in, we discovered there were only 22 buildings here. That wasn’t enough to house all our commissioners, so we decided to build eight more. This is a demonstration of our commitment to the well-being of our top government functionaries,” the Governor explained.
Each unit consists of four bedrooms, two boys’ quarters, and modern lounges. The Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Godknows Angele, who supervised the project, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his support, saying the homes were completed on schedule and built to high standards.
The Dean of Commissioners and Commissioner for Finance, Chief Fidelis Tilije, also thanked Governor Oborevwori for prioritizing their comfort and requested the renovation of the existing 22 old quarters to match the quality of the new ones.
Meanwhile, the Governor revealed plans to commission more projects across the state before the year ends. He said his administration would adopt a focused approach — grouping projects by location for more efficient unveilings, similar to what President Bola Tinubu did in Lagos over the weekend.
“We have many projects to commission. We may not complete all this year, but we’ll do our best. In Warri, for example, we’ll stay in one location and commission multiple projects at once.”

Governor Oborevwori concluded his speech by reinforcing the core message of the day: better infrastructure is important, but accountability and service delivery matter more.
“If there’s a problem in a ministry, hold the commissioner responsible. Any ministry that is doing very well shows that its commissioner is doing very well.”
The commissioning of the new duplexes signals the administration’s commitment to providing the right environment for public officers, while also drawing a clear line: benefits come with responsibility, and results will determine who stays.
