The governor emphasized that the Supreme Court judgment has no impact on Delta State, explaining that the state government has never interfered with local government funds. He pointed out that the Joint Accounts Allocation Committee (JAAC) ensures the transparency of these funds and that any outstanding debts owed by the Local Governments have been cleared.
Regarding the ongoing local government polls, Governor Oborevwori expressed satisfaction with the transparent and fair process. He recalled his own successful election through a similar process, despite facing opposition, and expressed confidence in the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) success in the polls.
Governor Oborevwori viewed the local government elections as a crucial litmus test for the future, particularly for the 2027 elections. He emphasized that the outcome of these polls would reflect the government’s commitment to its MORE Agenda. He assured the people of Delta State that the government is currently executing projects without resorting to borrowing funds, underscoring their dedication to the state’s welfare and progress.
In a final message, Governor Oborevwori encouraged the incoming local government chairmen to remain focused and committed to their responsibilities. He emphasized that, as the closest government representatives to the grassroots level, their dedication is crucial for effective governance and meeting the needs of the people.
