Explosion Hits Borno Fish Market During Peak Hours, Multiple Casualties

Borno State, Nigeria – June 21, 2025 Panic and grief swept through the Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday night after a deadly suicide bombing at a crowded fish market left at least 10 people dead and seven others seriously injured.

According to security sources, the suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber struck at the height of commercial activities at the popular evening market, a bustling hub for local traders and residents. The assailant, who disguised as a civilian, reportedly blended into the crowd before detonating an explosive device.

“The suicide bomber also died in the blast,” a local security operative, identified as Makama, confirmed.

Eyewitnesses described horrific scenes in the aftermath of the explosion. Many victims lay motionless on the ground, while others cried out for help amid the thick smoke and chaos. “It was like a war zone,” one witness said. “People were screaming and running in every direction. There was blood everywhere.”

Troops from the Nigerian Army and emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the scene. The injured were quickly evacuated to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.

Security officials have since cordoned off the area to prevent further attacks and to conduct investigations. A military patrol has been intensified across Konduga and its surrounding communities, as fears of additional attacks linger.

This latest incident highlights the persistent threat posed by insurgent groups in the North-East region, despite ongoing military efforts to restore peace and security.

As of the time of filing this report, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, Boko Haram—known for its use of suicide bombers targeting civilian gatherings—remains the prime suspect.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to security agencies.
