Traders in Uwvie and environs have complained bitterly over the alarming cost of food and other products in the market as a result of the EndSARS protests which was carried out across the country.
The Effurun Market, Ugborikoko Market, , and Uvwie Modern Market, Ugbolokposo, all in Uvwie Local Government Area were visited to feel the pulse of the masses and reveal the rationale in the hike of foodstuff and other commodities.
It was gathered that the prices of goods such as tin tomatoes, fresh tomatoes, groundnut oil, yam, cow meat, dry and fresh fish, local and foreign rice among others have gone up.
Similarly, a bag of cement that was sold for two thousand, six hundred naira is now sold for three thousand naira.
Findings reveal that due to the EndSARS protest in most parts of the country, major distributors of goods are scared to embark on haulage of goods to different parts of the country for now because of fear of the unknown that may occur in the process.
It was also gathered that traders with goods in their shops inflated the prices, bearing in mind that restocking would be more expensive than usual.
Both traders and buyers in Effurun Market, Ugborikoko Market, and Uwvie Modern Market, Ugbolokposo, called on the state government to quickly attend to the issues surrounding the EndSARS protest and pave way for a quick recovery of the Nigerian economy, especially as it affects the grassroots.
