Delta 2027: Thompson Fuoye Declares Interest in Burutu Federal Constituency Seat

A chieftain from Burutu, High Chief Thompson Robert Fuoye, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Burutu Federal House of Representatives seat in the 2027 general elections.

Fuoye made the declaration on Thursday, April 30, 2026, while briefing journalists in Asaba shortly after returning from Abuja, where he obtained his expression of interest form. He was received by supporters who gathered to welcome him back.

Speaking during the briefing, the aspirant expressed confidence in his chances despite the expected competition, stating that he remains strongly connected to the grassroots.

According to him, the current political atmosphere provides a level playing field for all aspirants, noting that President Bola Tinubu has encouraged fair participation without endorsing preferred candidates.

Fuoye said his closeness to the people and long-standing presence in the community give him an advantage, adding that he understands the needs of the constituency.

Outlining his plans, he identified lack of government presence in parts of the constituency as a major challenge. He noted that many communities lack basic infrastructure, particularly in education.

“We do not have enough schools or higher institutions in our area. Many young people have to travel long distances to places like Abraka or even Bayelsa State to access education, which discourages them,” he said.

He pledged that, if elected, one of his top priorities would be to attract a higher institution to the area to improve access to education and encourage youth development.

The aspirant also emphasized the need for empowerment programmes, particularly skill acquisition initiatives aimed at equipping young people with practical skills such as electrical work and other vocational trades.

He further commended ongoing efforts by the Delta State Government to improve infrastructure, including the recent approval of a road project linking communities in the area, which he said would boost development.

On security, Fuoye expressed satisfaction with the current level of peace in the state, noting that improved engagement of youths has reduced crime and enhanced safety across communities.

He also acknowledged the policies of the federal government, stating that although challenges remain, there have been gradual improvements in areas such as electricity supply.

Explaining why he believes he will emerge victorious, Fuoye pointed to zoning arrangements within the constituency, which he said favour candidates from the southern axis. He noted that he is currently the only aspirant from the area under his party platform.

Appealing to voters, he urged constituents to support his candidacy, promising what he described as “fresh leadership” that would bring meaningful change and development to the area.

The 2027 general elections are expected to witness increased political activities across Delta State as aspirants begin to position themselves for key legislative seats.
