Chieftaincy Title Reserved for Those Who Contribute to Community Development — Monarch

By Ifeanyi Omenogor

The traditional ruler of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, Obi Ifechukwude Okonjo, has reaffirmed that chieftaincy titles in the kingdom are conferred only on individuals who have made meaningful contributions to community development.

Obi Okonjo stated this while conferring the title of Onwanetilioha of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom on Chief (Mrs.) Yolanda Ndudi during a ceremony held at his palace in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The monarch said the honour bestowed on Chief (Mrs.) Ndudi was in recognition of her unwavering support for her husband, Chief (Dr.) Jude Ozah, and their combined efforts toward the progress of Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State and Nigeria at large.

He noted that the couple have remained a strong pillar of support to the community, describing their developmental contributions as unmatched.

According to the royal father, Ogwashi-Uku enjoys improved security today largely due to the couple’s intervention, adding that they donated vehicles, drones and other security equipment to the police for enhanced protection of lives and property within the community and across the state.

“Chief (Mrs.) Yolanda Ndudi is a pride and a source of joy to the Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom. She has the interest of the community at heart,” Obi Okonjo said.

In her response, Chief (Mrs.) Ndudi expressed gratitude to the monarch and the people of Ogwashi-Uku for recognising her family’s contributions and for deeming her worthy of the Onwanetilioha title. She said the recognition would further motivate her family to continue supporting the community, the state and the nation.

Several chiefs at the ceremony—including Chief Gabriel Ohai (Odogwu of Ogwashi-Uku), Chief Edwin Esemezie (Igwoba of Ogwashi-Uku), Chief Okeibunor Augustine (Ogboli of Ogwashi-Uku) and Chief George Okafor (Ogodilieze of Ogwashi-Uku)—described the honour as well-deserved. They praised Chief (Mrs.) Ndudi and her husband as icons of development and exemplary indigenes of Ogwashi-Uku.

Other dignitaries present, including Chief Zealiwe Ojeogwu (Alio of Ogwashi-Uku), Chief Onyema Igbokoi, Architect Ikechukwu Odide (CEO, MIO Group), Hon. Patrick Onyekanankea, Hon. Stephen Ezediunor, and the Omu of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, Ogbueshi Edith Rafua, also described the couple as beacons of hope for the kingdom.

They commended Obi Okonjo for recognising the family’s contributions and prayed for God’s continued blessings and protection upon him.
