The Delta State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that State-owned media establishments continue to operate effectively and competitively despite the challenging economic conditions in the country. Dr. Osuoza made this statement during the budget defence session of the Ministry of Information’s proposed financial estimates for the 2025 fiscal year, held at the Ministry of Economic Planning.
Accompanied by his management team and heads of the various parastatals under the Ministry of Information, Dr. Osuoza noted significant improvements in the operations and services of the three State-owned media establishments since he assumed office. However, he acknowledged ongoing challenges, including a lack of adequate equipment and other logistical constraints, which have limited the operational capacity and service delivery of these media houses.
During the session, Dr. Osuoza expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the budget discussions, praising the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Sunny Ekadeyan, and his team for their understanding and cooperation. He assured that the Ministry would focus on enhancing services and increasing the visibility of the State-owned Pointer Newspaper, emphasizing that more attention would be given to unlocking its full potential as a key media establishment.
In addition, Dr. Osuoza extended his gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his continued support in maintaining the operations of the State-owned media outlets. He promised that the State Government would keep providing the necessary assistance to ensure these media houses and the Ministry of Information are well-positioned to effectively promote and communicate the achievements and activities under the M.O.R.E Agenda to the people of Delta State.
The budget defence highlighted the government’s commitment to addressing critical issues within the Ministry of Information and ensuring that State-owned media platforms remain vital channels for disseminating information across the State.
