Apart from Effurun Flyover, Nothing Else: Omo-Agege Slams Oborevwori Over Misuse of N900 Billion

Oghara, Delta State — Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has accused Governor Sherrif Oborevwori of failing to deliver meaningful development in Delta State, despite receiving over N900 billion from federal allocations and internally generated revenue in the past year and a half.

Omo-Agege, who was the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, criticized the governor for having little to show for the state’s vast financial resources apart from the N86 billion flyover bridge in Effurun. Speaking on Tuesday in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area, during the formal defection of Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu and other former PDP members to the APC, he described the situation as disheartening and a betrayal of Delta’s development potential.

“Since assuming office, Governor Oborevwori has accessed over N900 billion, primarily due to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and naira floatation. While these policies increased federal allocations to states, Delta has nothing to show apart from the Effurun flyover,” Omo-Agege said.

He lamented that internal roads across the state remain in deplorable conditions, accusing the state government of prioritizing debt servicing and political patronage over the welfare of the people. “Instead of channeling these funds into projects that benefit citizens, the resources have been used to settle debts and satisfy political godfathers. This is unacceptable,” he added.

Omo-Agege further criticized successive PDP-led administrations in Delta State, claiming that the state has suffered from a lack of serious governance since Chief James Ibori left office in 2003. He accused former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration of squandering state resources on a failed Vice Presidential campaign, while Oborevwori’s government has continued down the same path of mismanagement.

The APC leader assured Deltans that the situation could still be salvaged, expressing optimism about the growing strength of the APC in the state. He urged party members to remain united and committed to unseating the PDP in the 2027 elections.

“We are building a coalition to reclaim Delta from decades of PDP misrule. Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu’s defection, along with other prominent leaders, is a testament to the growing discontent with the current administration,” Omo-Agege stated.

He also commended Erhiatake’s dedication to President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, noting that her defection to the APC symbolizes a significant shift in Delta politics. “Delta APC is stronger than ever, and together, we will deliver a brighter future for our state,” he concluded.

The event served as a rallying call for APC members to continue mobilizing ahead of 2027, with Omo-Agege pledging that the party would present a credible candidate to liberate Delta from what he termed “unproductive leadership.”
