Delta APC faults Okowa on poor road construction

The Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a swipe at Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa’s led administration over poor road construction that is been executed in some parts of the State.

The Party in what it’s described as “chop I chop road” said, it is disheartening, immoral, and criminal of the State Government to award humongous amounts to road projects yet the quality of the roads is far from the funds allocated.

This was made known to newsmen in a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Barr. Sylvester Imonina, Esq, on 19th February 2021.

According to the statement, the Party decried the quality of work on the recently rehabilitated Orhuwhorun road in the Udu Local Government Area of the State. Stating that, the road is already collapsing even when rain is yet to start due to the bad engineering work.

The Party also faulted that, it is an embarrassment to Deltans because, for the past fifteen years, the Effurun/Sapele Road in Uvwie Local Government Area of the State has been under construction. They said the road which is less than ten kilometer has become “Isuzu” to every PDP led administration in the State, stating that any rehabilitated section of the road does not survive the vagaries of weather for one year.

The Party also expressed shock over the recently constructed Okpe-Isoko/Orie/Ofagbe road in the Isoko area. They said the road which was supposed to have several culverts because of its typography/swampy nature was only graded, sand fill, then asphalt was added to it. They said, there was no excavation carried out. They also said that the road is less than two inches thick, it has potholes because of the poor job done by the contractors that handled the projects. According to them, the road is an eyesore that might not be unconnected with “Kick back and kick front” for what the government is known for.

Also, the Party lament over the poor nature of the Otokutu main road in Ughelli South Local Government Area. They alleged that the road is a product of “my Oga dey Asaba to protect, nothing dey happen” as a result, quality is been thrown to the dustbin whenever the road is been constructed or rehabilitated, stating that, irrespective of the substandard nature of the road, some persons see the road project as their yearly source of income.

The Party called on the State Government to change from its callous disposition towards the good of Deltans. They said, why are Deltans so unlucky when it comes to governance of the State.

However, the Party also calls on Deltans to always demand a bill of quality of projects being executed in their domain. They urge Deltans to stake their destiny in their hands and demand the best since the State Government is not ready to guarantee quality roads.
