Aniocha South Local Government Chairman, Chief Isaac Anwuzia has promoted the installation, reinforcement and
rehabilitation of the electric poles, to Agidiase quarters in Ogwashi-uku.
Chief Anwuzia said his aim is to enhance power supply which has not been available in the area for a long time.
Addressing newsmen in an inspection tour of the on-going electricity project, Anwuzia stated that the projects are in line with the Delta State government’s readiness to provide light to rural areas in the State.
The council boss said the installation of the new electric poles and cables would help in enhancing power supply in the area stressing that improved power supply would enhance commercial activities, security, technological growth, and prosperity in the community.
“The installation of the new electric poles and cable would boost electric supply in Agidiase and impact positively on the Ogwashi-Uku business community as commercial activities in the area will increase, thereby reducing youth restiveness.
“The electric installation would further create immense opportunity for wealth creation through increased commercial activities and security of lives and properties of residents” He added.
Chief Anwuzia reiterated that his administration was committed to bringing electricity and other social amenities to the rural areas within the local government.
The council Boss also said he has told the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to install the high tension poles and energize the community’s transformer to provide power supply to the affected area and other parts of the town.
He urged the community leaders to ensure adequate security of the equipment to avoid the vandalization of the electrical equipment.
Earlier in his remarks, a staff of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) Engr, Mike said that the installation of the electric poles and transformers would help in stabilizing power supply in the affected areas.
Reacting to the gesture, thethe Obi of Ogwashi-uku, HRM Obi Chukuka Aninshi Okonjo [II] commended Chief Anwuzia for ensuring the replacement of the damaged electric poles and facilitating the installation of new ones and other electrical equipment to ensure that the Agidiase people receive power supply, adding that the palace and the Ogwashi-uku community will continue to pray and support their son, Anwuzia in his deliberate efforts to make life better for the people.
Some of the residents who spoke to newsmen on the projects lauded the state government, particularly the local government chairman, Chief Anwuzia for the interventions, adding that the installation of the new electric poles and transformers would reconnect the affected community to the national grid and improve electricity supply in the area.
They also pledged to safeguard the projects from vandals and encourage the government to extend the gesture to other rural communities in the area.
