Delta orders assessment of dilapidated public schools for urgent repairs

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has ordered an assessment of public primary and secondary schools in poor condition for urgent rehabilitation, as the state moves to improve learning facilities.

Oborevwori gave the directive on Friday during the inauguration of Model Technical College, Oghareki, in Ethiope West Local Government Area.

He said the Ministries of Primary and Secondary Education should begin the assessment immediately, noting that the state had more than 1,400 primary schools and 480 secondary schools requiring sustained investment and maintenance.

“I have directed that all schools in Delta State that are in deplorable condition, whether primary or secondary, should be assessed for immediate rehabilitation,” the governor said.

He added that the State Executive Council had also directed the ministries to identify schools requiring urgent intervention.

Oborevwori said the new technical college was established to equip students with practical skills for employment and self-reliance.

He disclosed that three other model technical colleges in Irri, Isoko South; Kiagbodo, Burutu; and Akugbene, Bomadi, would be completed and inaugurated before December 2026.

The governor also announced a N50m education support fund for Miss Ogheneovo Davina, a Junior Technical II student who spoke on behalf of her colleagues at the ceremony.

Davina thanked the government for investing in technical education and said the students would use the facilities to acquire practical skills.

The member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, the Chairman of Ethiope West Local Government Council, Christian Onogba, and the Oghara monarch, HRM Noble Eshemitan, Orefe III, congratulated the governor on the project.

Oborevwori acknowledged former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration for initiating the college project and said his government had completed it. He also commended former Governor James Ibori for his contributions to the state’s development.
