The newly sworn-in lawmaker representing Udu State Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Arthur Okolosi, has identified poor roads and other challenges affecting residents as issues he plans to raise in the Assembly.
Okolosi said he would work with other lawmakers and relevant authorities to seek solutions to the problems facing his constituents.
The lawmaker spoke shortly after he took his oath of office during Tuesday’s plenary of the Delta State House of Assembly.
He said, “First of all, let me thank God and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the opportunity. I also want to appreciate the Speaker and members of the House for the confidence reposed in me.”
Okolosi said his immediate focus would be to work with his colleagues to ensure that residents of Udu benefited from government programmes and legislative activities.
“My expectation is to work with the House and ensure that we bring the dividends of democracy to the people of Udu State Constituency,” he said.
He specifically mentioned roads among the major challenges facing the constituency, adding that he would present the concerns of residents before the House.
“We have challenges, particularly in the area of roads and other issues affecting our people. I will take these concerns to the Assembly and work with the relevant authorities to address them,” he said.
Okolosi, however, declined to make specific promises about what he would achieve within his first 100 days in office.
“First and foremost, I believe in God, so I don’t want to make promises for now. I believe that with God, we will be able to achieve what is necessary for our people,” he said.
The lawmaker was sworn in after winning the Udu State Constituency bye-election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission on September 19, 2026.
The seat became vacant after the Delta State House of Assembly declared it vacant on July 30, 2026, paving the way for the bye-election.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, administered the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Membership to Okolosi during the plenary.
Guwor congratulated the new lawmaker and assured him of the cooperation of the Assembly as he begins his legislative duties.
The Speaker urged Okolosi to work with his colleagues on legislation and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and development of Udu and Delta State.
Okolosi also appealed for unity among members of the House, saying cooperation would enable them to achieve more for their constituents.
He is expected to join other members of the Eighth Delta State House of Assembly in legislative activities and represent the interests of residents of Udu State Constituency.
