The Hansard Department of the Delta State House of Assembly has won the National Assembly Golden Mace Trophy at the Annual Delegate Conference of the Association of Official Reporters of Nigeria in Abuja.
The award was presented to the department after it emerged winner of the competition involving official reporters from state Houses of Assembly in Nigeria and other African countries.
The Speaker of the Delta Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, received the trophy on behalf of the department in his office in Asaba.
Guwor congratulated the Hansard staff, popularly known as Official Verbatim Reporters, for bringing recognition to the state legislature.
He said the award was evidence of the department’s competence and commitment to accurate legislative reporting.
“I am truly delighted that you have made Delta State proud. This trophy is not just a symbol, it is evidence of competence, diligence and the vibrancy that Delta Assembly is known for. You have represented us excellently,” the Speaker said.
Guwor urged the staff to see the award as a challenge to maintain high standards in their work.
He also assured them of the continued support of the Assembly leadership and urged them to uphold accuracy, confidentiality and global best practices.
The Speaker, who is also the National Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, said the Hansard Department played an important role in preserving the legislative records and history of the House.
Presenting the trophy to the Speaker, the Director of Publications, Louis Osiadi, said the award was won after a keen contest with colleagues from other state Houses of Assembly and African countries.
Osiadi attributed the achievement to the support and working environment provided by the Speaker and the management of the Assembly.
He thanked Guwor for his encouragement and support to the department.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Nkem Nwaeke, said a letter of appreciation from the Association of Hansard/Verbatim Reporters of Nigeria was also presented to the Speaker.
The letter was signed by the association’s President, Gobina Drisu.
The presentation was witnessed by the Clerk of the House, Otto Aghoghophia; Deputy Clerk, Legislative Matters, Silvester Olorogun; and other Hansard staff who attended the conference.
The Annual Delegate Conference was held at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, from September 6 to 12, 2026.
The conference featured sessions on legislative reporting, chamber procedures, debates, bill stages and other aspects of legislative practice.
