Delta Govt Moves to Legalise 13th-Month Salary, Approves Teacher Recruitment

The Delta State Government has announced plans to make the payment of a 13th-month salary to civil servants a legal requirement during the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

The Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this on Friday while briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting in Asaba.

Aniagwu said the government would send a bill to the Delta State House of Assembly seeking to make the annual bonus payment a law throughout Governor Oborevwori’s tenure.

According to him, the move is aimed at ensuring that civil servants continue to receive the 13th-month salary as part of the administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare.

The commissioner also announced that the Executive Council had approved the recruitment of more teachers for public secondary schools across the state to improve the quality of education.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Transport, Onoriode Agofure, said the council approved the deployment of 50 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to improve public transportation.

He added that the government also approved the introduction of electric vehicles as part of efforts to modernise the state’s transport system and promote cleaner energy.

The commissioners said more details on the implementation of the approvals would be made public in due course.
