2027 Race Heats Up as DYTM Throws Support Behind Okowa

Ika North East, Delta State — Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Delta North Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections, drawing widespread support from political stakeholders, youth groups, and community leaders across the district.

The declaration, which took place in Ika North East Local Government Area, attracted a large gathering of party faithful, traditional leaders, and supporters, marking a significant moment in the political direction of Delta North. The event was marked by enthusiasm and a renewed sense of unity among attendees, many of whom described the former governor’s return to the senatorial race as timely and strategic.

Among key figures present at the event was the President of the Delta Youth Transformation Movement (DYTM), Sir Isioma Melekwe, who joined other stakeholders and indigenes to witness the declaration and show solidarity with the former governor.

Addressing journalists at the event, Melekwe reaffirmed the full backing of DYTM for Okowa’s candidacy, describing him as a tested leader with a proven record of impactful governance and dedication to public service.

“DYTM is fully mobilised and solidly behind the candidacy of His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa. We are confident in his capacity to deliver quality representation, attract meaningful development, and amplify the voice of Delta North at the National Assembly,” he said.

He further noted that Okowa’s leadership style, built on experience and inclusiveness, continues to inspire young leaders across the state, adding that the movement sees his candidacy as an opportunity to sustain development and strengthen representation at the federal level.

Melekwe also highlighted his personal and political connection with the former governor, noting that both leaders share roots in the same local government area and ward, a factor he said reinforces trust and shared commitment to the progress of the people.

Describing Okowa as both a mentor and a visionary leader, the DYTM president stated that the movement would actively engage in grassroots mobilisation, community outreach, and youth-driven campaigns to ensure victory at the polls.

He added that DYTM remains committed to empowering young people to participate in the democratic process while supporting credible leaders who have demonstrated capacity and integrity.

The declaration event ended with calls from supporters for unity and collective action, as stakeholders urged residents of Delta North to rally behind Okowa’s ambition in pursuit of sustained growth, inclusive governance, and socio-economic development across the district.
