The Delta State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has ordered the immediate arrest of a senior officer, ASP Nuhu Usman, following an incident that has raised serious concerns about professional conduct within the force.
According to an official statement, the Area Commander in Effurun was directed to promptly apprehend the officer and transfer him to the State Headquarters in Asaba for disciplinary procedures. The officer has since been issued a formal query and subsequently moved to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
At the national headquarters, ASP Usman is expected to appear before the Force Disciplinary Committee, which is currently in session. The committee will determine appropriate sanctions and possible prosecution in line with police regulations.
The Command reiterated that its actions align with the core values of the Nigeria Police Force, including strict adherence to the rule of law, respect for human rights, professionalism, accountability, and the need to maintain public trust. It emphasized a zero-tolerance stance toward any form of lawlessness, recklessness, or extra-judicial behavior among its personnel.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, expressed deep sympathy to the family of the deceased, Mene Ogidi. He assured them that the Command is fully committed to ensuring justice is served.
The Commissioner also appealed to residents of Delta State to remain calm and law-abiding, noting that all necessary steps are being taken to address the situation and hold those responsible accountable.
