US Soldiers Killed as Iran Confirms Death of Supreme Leader After Joint Strikes

The Middle East has entered one of its most dangerous moments in decades after the United States confirmed that three of its soldiers were killed in a major military operation against Iran. Five other American troops were seriously wounded.

The announcement came on Sunday from the US Central Command, which said the casualties happened during what it called “Operation Epic Fury.” Several other soldiers suffered minor injuries but are expected to return to duty.

US officials also confirmed that American forces bombed an Iranian warship in the Gulf of Oman. The military said the vessel was struck while docked at a pier in Chah Bahar and is now sinking.

Major combat operations are still ongoing.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Killed in Strike

The crisis escalated early Saturday when the United States and Israel launched coordinated missile and air strikes on multiple Iranian cities.

Iranian state media later confirmed that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, was killed in the attack. He was 86 years old and had ruled the country since 1989.

According to reports, Khamenei was holding a meeting with senior military officials when the building was struck. Several top officials were also killed, including:

Abdolrahim Mousavi, Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces

Defence Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh

Revolutionary Guards Chief Mohammad Pakpour

Ali Shamkhani, Head of Iran’s Defence Council

Iran has declared 40 days of national mourning.

Before the official confirmation, there had been debate worldwide over whether Khamenei was truly dead. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said there were “many signs” he was no longer alive.

US President Donald Trump later confirmed the killing in a social media post, calling it justice and saying Iran’s leader could not escape US intelligence systems.

Iran Fires Back

Shortly after the strikes, Iran launched drones and missiles toward Israeli territory and US military bases across the Middle East.

Several Gulf countries reported explosions and air defense interceptions.

In the United Arab Emirates, one person was killed and 11 others injured after debris from intercepted drones fell near airports in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Authorities said a drone aimed at Zayed International Airport was intercepted, but falling debris caused the fatality and injuries.

Officials urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading rumors.

As tensions rose, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, and Kuwait temporarily closed their airspace. Flights were cancelled or delayed, leaving thousands of passengers stranded.

Airports increased security, and governments reviewed emergency plans amid fears the conflict could spread further.

Israel also declared a “special and permanent state of emergency,” warning that more attacks could follow.

The Nigerian Embassy in Doha issued a security alert to Nigerians living in Qatar. The embassy urged citizens to register their presence and follow safety instructions from local authorities.

Nigerians were asked to send their personal details, including passport information and contact addresses, to the embassy via email.

The mission said it is monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates when necessary.

Military operations are still continuing, and both sides have vowed to defend their interests.

With the death of Iran’s top leader and several key military figures, the region faces serious uncertainty. Civilian lives have already been affected, and global travel has been disrupted.

World leaders are now watching closely to see whether diplomacy can prevent a wider war — or whether the conflict will expand further across the Middle East.
