Delta to Build Modern Transport Terminal in Warri, Replicate in Asaba — Commissioner

The Delta State Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Onoriode Agofure, on Monday, November 10, 2026, appeared before the Ministry of Economic Planning to defend the proposed 2026 budget for the Transport Ministry.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the presentation in Asaba, Agofure disclosed that the ministry received a 100 per cent increase in its budget allocation for the coming year. He noted that the increment reflects the state government’s confidence in the ministry’s performance and the need to expand transportation development across the state.

“We had a 100 per cent increase in our budget envelope. For leadership to increase our allocation, it means we are doing well and they want us to do even better,” he said.

Agofure reported that the ministry achieved over 50 per cent performance in its 2025 budget implementation. He listed several completed and ongoing projects aimed at improving transport infrastructure and services in the state.

According to him, the ministry successfully built and replicated four to five new motor parks (locally referred to in the interview as “churches”) in different locations, including Warri and Asaba. The Warri project, he explained, is fully completed and ready for commissioning, while the Asaba terminal, located between Shoprite and NNPC Mega Station, is nearing completion.

He also highlighted the ministry’s introduction of the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) System, which has already gone live to enhance vehicle identification and security monitoring across the state.

In addition, the ministry acquired a tow truck to support road clearance and emergency response, stating that more units are expected next year to strengthen traffic management.

When asked about complaints regarding multiple levies imposed on transport operators, Agofure stated that the ministry has taken steps to tackle the issue.

“We have just inaugurated a task force to address illegal levies and multiple tax activities. We want to end that immediately,” he said.

Looking ahead, the Commissioner revealed that the ministry, in partnership with the Federal Government, will construct a modern ultra–urban transport terminal in Warri.

He added that similar transport terminals will be replicated in Asaba and other major areas across the state to improve inter-city mobility and enhance economic activities.

“We are going to do more landmark projects. Watch out next year,” he assured.
