Engineering Profession, a Noble Calling — Udu Monarch

By Ifeanyi Omenogor

The traditional ruler of Udu Kingdom, Okporua I, Ovie of Udu Kingdom, Engr. Michael Orugbo, has described engineering as a noble profession that plays a vital role in making society comfortable and progressive.

He made the remark when executive members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Asaba Branch, paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Udu Local Government Area.

The monarch said engineering is a profession of service to humanity and urged young people in the kingdom to embrace it as a pathway to personal growth and national development.

“Youths should follow the footsteps of their forefathers, remain at peace, and embrace engineering so that life can be better for them and the nation at large,” he said.

The royal father thanked the visiting engineers for their show of love towards him, the engineering profession, and the Udu Kingdom. He also prayed for God’s protection and blessings upon their work.

NSE Salutes Monarch

Earlier, Engr. Ikechukwu Osunde, Chairman of NSE Asaba Branch, said the delegation visited to identify with the monarch and congratulate him on his ascension to the throne.

He noted that engineering thrives on integrity, precision, and responsibility, virtues which also define traditional leadership.

“The royal father has shown that leadership is not only about titles but about impact,” Osunde said.

He added that the monarch’s reign reflects wisdom drawn from both engineering and cultural heritage, ensuring preservation of tradition while promoting progress and empowerment of his people.

The NSE chairman expressed confidence that the king’s leadership would inspire both young engineers and the wider community to believe that greatness comes through service, humility, and dedication.

According to him, it was the monarch’s leadership qualities and contributions to the engineering profession that motivated the Asaba Branch of NSE to pay him a courtesy visit.
