Team Lagos has been crowned champions of the 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, after finishing ahead of the host state on the medals table.
Lagos athletes put up a dominant performance, securing 52 gold, 32 silver, and 26 bronze medals to claim the top spot.
Despite competing on home soil, Delta State could not keep pace with the Lagos team. Delta finished second with 37 gold, 38 silver, and 39 bronze medals, while neighbouring Edo State came third with 33 gold, 18 silver, and 28 bronze medals.
Altogether, 33 states participated in the Games, with athletes winning a combined total of 802 medals—made up of 246 gold, 236 silver, and 320 bronze.
The National Youth Games, introduced to discover and nurture young talent, has continued to serve as one of Nigeria’s biggest platforms for grooming future sports stars.
