“It’s a Lie!” — Governor Soludo Slams Politicians Promising One Term

The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has come out strongly against politicians who promise to serve just one term in office if elected governor. He called such promises deceptive, misleading, and even questioned the mental state of those making them.

Governor Soludo made these remarks during a political rally in Anambra South on Saturday, where he was endorsed for a second term by supporters. Speaking passionately, he warned the people of Anambra not to fall for political tricks or allow desperate individuals to disrupt the state’s well-established zoning system.

What Is the Zoning System in Anambra?

Anambra State follows a zoning arrangement where different parts of the state take turns to produce the governor. Soludo, who is from Anambra South, is expected to complete an eight-year term (if re-elected). After that, power should rotate to Anambra Central.

Soludo stressed that anyone from Anambra South still pushing to become governor after his tenure is simply trying to break the system, which he believes is unfair to other zones and dangerous for the state’s political stability.

Soludo’s Strong Words

The governor didn’t hold back during his speech. He questioned why any serious political candidate would promise to serve only one term when the Nigerian Constitution clearly allows a maximum of two terms (eight years).

“Anybody who comes to say they would serve only one term needs psychiatric examination,” Soludo said. “You come to people and say ‘I will do only one term.’ Who are you talking to? Do you think you’re speaking to fools?”

He added that such a statement is often a tactic used by politicians to trick voters and later try to remain in office longer than promised.

“Anambra Has Grown Beyond That”

Soludo reminded the audience that Anambra is a state of great minds and achievers — including Nigeria’s first president, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, the legendary writer Chinua Achebe, and civil war hero Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

He said the people of Anambra have developed politically and intellectually, and can no longer be fooled by “street urchins” and unqualified candidates who lack the proper education or integrity to lead the state.

“Some of them have no school certificates. Yet they want to be governor of Anambra. Anambra of Azikiwe, Ojukwu, and Achebe. It’s insulting,” the governor said angrily.

Final Message to Voters

Soludo called on the people of Anambra to defend the zoning system, reject fake promises, and ensure that only qualified and credible candidates take over leadership in the state.

“There are calibers and categories of people Anambra can no longer entertain,” he concluded. “We must move forward, not backward.”

What This Means for You

This speech highlights the importance of understanding how your state’s leadership is chosen, why zoning matters, and how to spot false political promises. Being politically aware means asking questions, checking facts, and thinking critically about who you support.
