Senator Ned Nwoko Says It’s Time for the World to Pay Africa Back for Years of Injustice

Abuja, Nigeria — Senator Ned Nwoko has promised that the Nigerian Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriations will work hard to correct the many wrongs done to Nigeria and Africa—both in the past and today.

Speaking at a meeting with important groups and leaders in Abuja, Senator Nwoko said it is time to take real action to get justice and compensation for the suffering Africa has faced for hundreds of years.

He mentioned that terrible things like slavery, colonial rule, and unfair treatment in the world economy have deeply hurt Africans for generations. “These injustices have shaped the African experience,” he said. “But now we are ready to take them on.”

Senator Nwoko explained that asking for reparations—which means getting compensation or help for the harm done—is not just talk anymore. It should be seen as something real and possible, backed by facts, laws, and a sense of fairness.

“Reparations are not just dreams or ideas,” he said. “They are real demands that the world must take seriously.”

He also talked about repatriation, which is the return of stolen African artifacts and treasures taken during colonial times. But he said it’s not just about returning physical items—it’s also about helping Africans reconnect with their identity and history.

“Repatriation is about restoring memory, identity, and the right to decide our future,” he explained.

The job of the Senate Committee, according to Nwoko, is to gather information about the wrongs done to Africa, work with experts and leaders, and come up with strong plans on how Nigeria can fight for justice and get the world to respond.

“This has been delayed for too long,” Nwoko said. “We are ready to lead this movement with clear goals and strong determination.”

The meeting was attended by lawmakers, professors, activists, and even people from other countries. Many of them supported the senator’s ideas and agreed that this work is important.

The Nigerian Senate is now taking big steps to make sure Africa’s voice is heard in the global call for justice, fairness, and the return of what was unfairly taken.
