Dr. George Nweke, the former Head of Service of Rivers State, recently spoke about the crisis in the state. He explained why he resigned from his position and shared details about events that led to a state of emergency.
Dr. Nweke said that he was not fired but chose to resign on his own. He worked closely with Governor Siminilayi Fubara and felt it was important to speak up about what was happening in the state.
According to Dr. Nweke, Governor Fubara ordered his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, to burn down the Rivers State House of Assembly to stop an impeachment attempt. He claimed he saw money being given to Edison for the operation.
Dr Nweke said that there were also plans to destroy the lawmakers’ residential quarters, but protests by the people stopped it. He questioned why a leader would destroy state properties instead of protecting them.
Plans to Influence Nigeria’s Leadership
Dr Nweke also claimed that Governor Fubara wanted to use his influence to decide who would be Nigeria’s next president. He mentioned that the governor talked about controlling oil pipelines and funding certain groups.
State of Emergency: A Necessary Action
Dr. Nweke thanked President Bola Tinubu for declaring a six-month state of emergency in Rivers State. He warned that without it, the crisis could have spread, affecting Nigeria’s economy and security.
Final Warning
Dr Nweke urged the government to remain watchful. He said there were still secret plans to cause problems, and he warned people not to be misled by false information in the media.
He ended his speech by thanking the President and calling for peace in Rivers State and Nigeria.
