The Delta State Government has responded to recent criticism from opposition politicians, saying it will not allow misinformation to mislead the public. Speaking at a press conference in Asaba on Monday, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, addressed statements made by former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, during his visit to Bomadi and Burutu Local Government Areas.
What the Government Said
Mr Aniagwu stated that the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is focused on delivering real projects to improve the lives of Deltans. He explained that some opposition politicians, possibly because they do not hold government positions anymore, have been making misleading statements about the government’s efforts.
“We want them to have more information, so instead of spreading false claims, they can at least read and understand what is happening in Delta State,” Aniagwu said.
Ongoing Projects Across Delta State
To counter the claims of neglect, Aniagwu listed several projects currently underway in different parts of the state:
Roads and Infrastructure
Southern Senatorial District
- Multiple road projects in Isoko South and North, including roads around Southern Delta University, Ozoro.
- Technical College in Irri and College of Health Technology in Ovrode are being developed.
- The Ohoror-Bomadi road (47km) is under construction, along with the Bomadi-Gbaregolor road (18.6km) and Okontu-Ogulaha road (12.5km) in Burutu.
Central and Northern Senatorial Districts
- The Ughelli-Asaba road, which connects all three senatorial districts, is receiving major attention.
- Roads and infrastructure in Warri South-West, Warri North, and Warri South, including the Trans Warri-Ode Itsekiri road and bridges, are ongoing.
- In Asaba, key roads like Summit Road and the road linking Central Bank Estate to Ugbolu are being reconstructed.
- The Beneku Bridge in Ndokwa East, which replaced an old pontoon crossing, has been completed.
Education and Health
- Several schools, including the Omadino Technical College and roads within the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Issele-Uku, are under development.
- Healthcare facilities like the College of Health Technology in Ovrode are expanding to provide better medical services.
Response to Criticism
Aniagwu emphasized that all these projects are real and verifiable, urging critics to visit the sites instead of making uninformed claims. He reminded the public that Senator Omo-Agege himself was once part of the government but is now questioning the same system he was involved in.
“If he says nothing has been done in 25 years of PDP governance, then he is also saying he failed while he was part of it,” Aniagwu said.
Illegal Mining Ban
The Commissioner also announced that the state government has banned illegal mining activities at Ugbolu Heights and other areas due to environmental concerns. He warned that those involved in illegal mining would face arrest.
The Delta State Government is urging people to focus on facts rather than political games. Mr Aniagwu’s message was clear: the government is working, and critics should take time to see the projects rather than spread misinformation.
“Delta State must not be left behind. So, let’s ‘wise up’ and work together for progress,” he concluded.
